The historical and cultural substantiation project of the city of Echmiadzin, 1980
Echmiadzin was the first city in Armenia for which a complex urban planning project was developed, providing for the identification, preservation and new use of the historical and cultural heritage of the city. At the 1981 Republican Review, this project was awarded a prize as one of the 10 best projects (1975–1980).
The project proposed solutions that, while ensuring the preservation of the physical and artistic historical and cultural features of Echmiadzin, allowed Echmiadzin’s expedient development as the most important cultural and touristic centre of the region.
